2027: Pack Your Bags, You’re Going Back To Lagos – El-Rufai Tells Tinubu

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a strong statement against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that plans are underway to remove him from power in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at the Arewa Tech Fest held Wednesday in Katsina, El-Rufai revealed he is part of a growing political coalition determined to defeat Tinubu and end his tenure after one term.

“We’re building a coalition to ensure that President Tinubu returns to Lagos in 2027,” El-Rufai said, drawing cheers from the audience. “That’s why I couldn’t travel with the organising team yesterday. We had a critical meeting at 8pm which delayed my trip.”

The event, aimed at promoting digital innovation and entrepreneurship in northern Nigeria, brought together investors, tech leaders, and young startups.

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has emerged as a key opposition figure ahead of the 2027 race. His defection earlier this year was seen as a major political shift, signaling his break from the ruling party.

While detailing the coalition’s plans, El-Rufai praised Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, describing him as a “performer” who would retain his post under a new government.

“We will still keep Bosun Tijani,” El-Rufai said. “He’s doing a great job.”

The remarks have fueled speculation about El-Rufai’s political ambitions and the shape of the opposition ahead of the next general election.
