Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general election, has revealed that Labour Party’s Peter Obi is deeply involved in discreet and strategic political negotiations aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Adebayo disclosed that contrary to the widespread speculations and social media chatter about political coalitions, more serious and structured engagements are ongoing behind the scenes among key political players.
Naijapunchnews reports that according to the international lawyer and media entrepreneur, these talks are not about photo-ops or political grandstanding but involve real actors with control over political structures, who are quietly building a solid alliance.
“Tinubu Will Be Sent Back After 2027” – Adebayo
Adebayo confidently predicted that President Tinubu will have no choice but to leave office in 2027, asserting that the current administration’s performance is far from satisfactory. He emphasized that the Nigerian electorate, not political propaganda or party defections, will ultimately determine the outcome of the next presidential election.
“The 2027 presidential contest is about the will of the Nigerian people,” he stated. “Anyone who is genuinely backed by the people – myself included – will defeat President Tinubu.”
He added that Nigerians have already given the president a two-year grace period to prove himself, allowing him to implement certain policies that previous administrations would not have gotten away with. Yet, Adebayo believes the trajectory so far indicates failure.
“From the look of things, Tinubu needs more than prayers to succeed,” he said. “Nigerians are growing more dissatisfied, and they won’t be fooled in 2027.”
A Quiet Revolution Brewing
The SDP chieftain revealed that multiple opposition party leaders are already holding underground meetings, discussing not just personalities but ideologies, strategies, and how best to accommodate each other’s differences.
“What we’re seeing is a coordinated, disciplined movement,” Adebayo explained. “It’s not about taking selfies at airports and calling it a coalition. The real work is happening quietly and it’s substantial.”
He stressed that defeating Tinubu in 2027 requires unity among the opposition and a well-defined plan, which includes selecting a single, strong candidate who commands widespread national support.
“There’s no doubt about it – we’re working toward fielding one major challenger,” he said. “But first, we must resolve internal differences to ensure we present a united front.”
Peter Obi’s Quiet Influence
When asked if Peter Obi was part of the ongoing coalition talks, Adebayo praised the former Anambra State governor for his discipline and strategic approach.
“Obi is involved, but he’s not broadcasting it. He moves quietly, meets with influential figures discreetly, and doesn’t use the media for political theatrics. He’s very disciplined and focused,” Adebayo noted.
He also expressed willingness to collaborate with Obi and others who have Nigeria’s best interests at heart. When asked whether he would step down for Obi in a united opposition front, Adebayo said, “That decision will come in due time. But I like what he’s doing, and he hasn’t opposed what I’m doing. We’re both serious-minded people.”
Adebayo concluded by warning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to be more concerned about serving Nigerians effectively than about their re-election chances.
“The APC should worry less about 2027 and more about the people they are failing today,” he said.
