Cleaner Confesses to Destroying Cousin’s Job Application Out of Jealousy

 

A woman working as a cleaner has made a startling confession about how she intentionally sabotaged her cousin's job opportunity out of envy. 

The incident, which has sparked debate on social media, was shared anonymously through a post on Facebook.

According to the cleaner, the incident occurred in March when she was assigned to clean the Human Resources (HR) department at her workplace. While tidying up, she noticed a familiar name among the top five shortlisted applicants for a recently advertised position. To her shock, it was her cousin’s curriculum vitae (CV) that had made the cut.

Overwhelmed by feelings of jealousy and insecurity, the cleaner admitted that she removed her cousin’s CV from the stack and threw it into the trash. Her motive, she revealed, was driven by a fear of the power dynamic that would come with her cousin possibly joining the company in a higher-ranking position, while she remained in a cleaning role.

In her own words, the cleaner explained her actions:

“Hi Auntie Momoza. Please keep me anonymous. I’m a cleaner at work. So in March this year, I was cleaning the HR lady’s office and saw a CV of my cousin in the top 5 shortlisted candidates for a post they advertised. I took it and threw it into the bin. I didn’t even know she applied for a job where I work. The thought of her working in the office while I’m cleaning in the same company just made my heart dark. At the same time, seeing her unemployed after graduating 3 years ago makes me feel sad.”

 

Despite the initial satisfaction she felt in preventing her cousin from getting the job, the woman now expresses deep regret. She says the guilt has been weighing on her, especially knowing how long her cousin has been struggling to find employment after completing her university education three years ago.

The post has drawn mixed reactions online. While some netizens have condemned the act as cruel and unethical, others have pointed out the deep psychological strain and low self-esteem that can lead people to commit such actions out of fear of inadequacy.

The cleaner has not disclosed whether she intends to confess to her employer or her cousin, but her remorse suggests she is grappling with the consequences of her actions.
