Troops under the Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation Fasin Yama, have successfully neutralized 21 terrorists during a daring assault on criminal hideouts in Ruwan Godiya, located in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the operation in a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday. The military said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gunfight, overwhelming them and causing many to flee in disarray. During the confrontation, several of the fleeing assailants reportedly drowned in a nearby river.
“In another daring operation, the gallant troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation Fasin Yama successfully assaulted terrorist enclaves in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari LGA of Katsina State, on 23 May 2025,” the statement read.
“The troops subdued the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon their base and flee. During the ensuing pursuit, 21 terrorists were neutralized, with some succumbing to drowning in a nearby river.”
The military also announced the recovery of a large cache of weapons and equipment from the scene. Items retrieved include firearms, loaded magazines, explosives, motorcycles, communication gadgets, and mobile phones believed to be used for coordinating attacks.
According to the statement, "The operation also yielded a significant seizure of arms and ammunition, including rifles, magazines, explosives, communication devices, and motorcycles."
This operation is part of an intensified offensive by security forces across Nigeria’s northwest region to dismantle terrorist camps and restore peace to rural communities long plagued by banditry and insurgency.
In a related development, troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East neutralized 16 fighters linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Damboa, Borno State, on the same day.
Security experts have applauded the coordinated efforts, noting that sustained military pressure is critical in degrading terrorist networks and reclaiming affected territories.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace in affected areas and urged the public to support ongoing operations by providing credible intelligence.
