Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has firmly refuted claims suggesting he intends to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Bello dismissed circulating campaign posters linking him to the next presidential race as false, misleading, and the handiwork of individuals determined to tarnish his image.
The clarification was made through a statement issued by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office. In the statement, Bello disassociated himself from any presidential campaign, labeling the trending poster as a deliberate attempt by political mischief-makers to create unnecessary tension and sow discord within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Our attention has been drawn to yet another baseless and misleading post fabricated by desperate individuals who are committed to dragging the name of Alhaji Yahaya Bello through the mud,” the statement read.
According to the media office, the poster in question was a recycled image from a 2022 rally, which has been falsely presented by some bloggers as a new political development. They noted that the original banners clearly bear 2022 dates, revealing the poster's outdated context.
“This is not the first time that enemies of progress have tried to stir controversy by spreading unfounded rumors. But their efforts have continuously failed,” the statement continued. “The latest attempt to republish a 2022 campaign photo and twist it as an ongoing event is not only deceitful but also an act of desperation.”
Bello’s camp described those behind the false narrative as “witless bloggers” and accused them of working on behalf of equally “brainless paymasters” who are threatened by the former governor's influence and popularity.
The former governor used the opportunity to reaffirm his total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating clearly that he has no interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election.
“Let it be known that Alhaji Yahaya Bello is fully committed to the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027. He recognizes the significant strides the President and his team have made in navigating the nation through economic and global challenges,” the statement said.
Bello's media office urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading posts and remain focused on supporting the government’s efforts at nation-building, emphasizing that creating unnecessary political distractions serves no constructive purpose.
