A tragic incident has shaken residents of Abuja following the death of a young woman, identified as Tessy, who was discovered lifeless in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances.
The incident occurred in a hotel located on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on June 16, 2025.
According to Comrade Itodo, President of the Empowered Youth Assembly (EYA), Tessy had checked into the hotel with an unidentified man. CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts allegedly captured the man leaving the premises alone, raising immediate suspicion.
“Tessy, who was found dead in a hotel room in Abuja under mysterious conditions, had lodged at the hotel with a yet-to-be-identified man. He was later seen leaving without her,” Itodo revealed.
The young woman was discovered unconscious by hotel staff during routine housekeeping checks. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead shortly after.

In a statement released to the press, the EYA President condemned the incident, describing it as both tragic and indicative of a broader threat facing women, especially young girls, in the Federal Capital Territory.
“This is a cruel and senseless act. The safety of young girls in Abuja is clearly under threat, and the authorities must act decisively,” Itodo said.
He further lamented that Tessy’s death is not an isolated incident, but part of a disturbing trend of violence against women, allegedly linked to ritual killings and cyber fraud.
“Ritualists and cybercriminals are turning the capital city into a hunting ground for innocent lives. We are tired of the bloodshed. We cannot keep losing our daughters to these predators. If Abuja is no longer safe, then what hope is there for the rest of the country?” he asked.
A Call for Vigilance and Government Action
Itodo also addressed the growing dangers of the so-called “hookup culture,” warning that many young women are being lured into dangerous situations in exchange for material benefits.
“Young women must be more cautious. Avoid meeting strangers in private settings, no matter the offer. These situations often end in tragedy, just like in this case,” he warned.
He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to engage young people in conversations around safety, peer pressure, and the consequences of risky behavior.
In his statement, the EYA President extended heartfelt condolences to Tessy's family and pledged the organisation's support in pursuing justice. He also called on the general public to assist law enforcement with any relevant information that may aid in the investigation.
Police Launch Investigation
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tessy’s death. A spokesperson for the police said preliminary findings are being gathered, and that more details would be made public as the investigation progresses.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for improved security in hotels and short-term accommodations across Abuja, including stricter guest identification protocols and better surveillance.
