COLOS: UNIZIK Student Dies After Jumping From Three-Storey Building Under Drug Influence

Tragedy struck Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, following the death of a male student who reportedly jumped from the balcony of a three-storey building within the university premises.

Sources indicate that the yet-to-be-identified student allegedly consumed a hard substance known locally as “Colos” before the fatal incident. Witnesses say a loud thud was heard around the building, prompting bystanders to rush to the scene where they discovered the student in a pool of blood.

Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to reports, the deceased’s roommate, who was also allegedly under the influence of a narcotic substance at the time, has been taken into custody and will face interrogation once his condition stabilizes.

The tragic development has sent shockwaves through the UNIZIK campus, raising concerns about the growing abuse of synthetic drugs among students.

As of the time of this report, the university management has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Students and concerned members of the public have called on school authorities and law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and intensify anti-drug awareness campaigns across campuses.
