Valentine Ozigbo, a leading aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election, has taken legal action to challenge the party's primary election result.
Ozigbo is contesting the emergence of Nicholas Ukachukwu as the APC's official candidate, citing alleged irregularities and violations of the party’s constitution.
The former presidential adviser and prominent businessman filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Awka, demanding the disqualification of Ukachukwu and a judicial review of the processes that led to his declaration as flagbearer.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Ozigbo clarified that his decision to go to court was not driven by personal ambition, but by a firm commitment to principle, transparency, and internal party democracy.
“Yesterday, at the Federal High Court in Awka, I stood not just for myself but also for justice, truth, and every Nigerian who believes in a better way,” he wrote.
He added that the legal action was a call for accountability within the APC, and a demand for adherence to due process as outlined in the party’s constitution.
“I seek a judicial review of breaches of the APC Constitution and the final outcome of the primary. If I succeed, I will be the governorship candidate of APC in the 2025 Anambra governorship election.”
Ozigbo Demands Accountability in Party Processes
Ozigbo emphasized the broader significance of his lawsuit, stating that democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere of impunity. According to him, the APC must model the ideals of justice and fairness if it is to earn the trust of the electorate.
“Our democracy cannot thrive where impunity reigns. Our people deserve better and I will not relent until justice is served,” he stated.
He called on the leadership of the party to prioritise integrity and ensure that internal elections reflect the will of the people, not pre-arranged outcomes.

In his closing remarks, Ozigbo appealed to Nigerians especially the youth and politically conscious citizens not to be discouraged by the challenges within the political system, but to remain engaged and hold institutions accountable.
“Let this be a reminder: the future belongs to those who refuse to look away when it matters most,” he said.
Ozigbo’s bold move has stirred renewed discussions about internal democracy within Nigerian political parties, as well as the credibility of party primaries leading up to major elections.
