Iranian authorities on Sunday executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, amid an intensifying regional conflict that has drawn in both Israel and the United States.
The man, identified as Majid Mosayyebi, was hanged in the central city of Isfahan following a conviction by the Islamic Revolution’s Court.
Iran’s judiciary announced the execution via its Mizan Online platform, stating that Mosayyebi had been found guilty of moharebeh (waging war against God) and ifsad fil-arz (corruption on earth) two of the country’s most serious capital offenses.
According to Alarabiya News, Iranian authorities have carried out multiple arrests of people suspected of spying for Israel since its attack on June 13.
The execution follows a recent order by Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, mandating expedited judicial processes for suspected spies and collaborators amid Iran’s deepening hostilities with Israel and its Western allies.
Mosayyebi’s execution comes as Iran grapples with the fallout from a massive Israeli military campaign dubbed Operation Rising Lion, launched on June 13, 2025.
Last week, Iran executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and attempting to leak classified information to the Tel Aviv government in exchange for money.
The execution was carried out on Monday morning after the Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.
According to a statement from the Judiciary’s public relations office, the man — identified as Esmaeil Fekri — maintained close contact with Mossad operatives and was arrested in December 2023 during a complex operation by Iranian security forces.
The campaign involved over 200 aircraft and reportedly included Mossad-led sabotage teams that targeted more than 100 sites across Iran—including nuclear facilities, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bases, and missile installations.
Tehran responded with a barrage of missile and drone strikes under Operation True Promise III, launching over 150 ballistic missiles and 100 drones at Israeli territory.
The exchange has led to significant casualties on both sides. Israeli officials report at least 14 deaths, including children, and hundreds wounded. Iranian sources cite over 224 dead and more than 1,200 injured, mostly civilians.
The unprecedented escalation has pushed the long-running shadow conflict between the two nations into open warfare, drawing in the United States, which has conducted strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites, including Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow.
In response to the ongoing conflict, Iranian authorities have intensified domestic security operations, arresting dozens of individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel or U.S. intelligence services.
Officials describe the wave of arrests and executions as essential to national security and a deterrent against further foreign infiltration.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Mosayyebi was accused of transmitting “sensitive intelligence” to a Mossad operative referred to only as “David,” whom he allegedly met in a Persian Gulf country.
The intelligence reportedly included strategic details on Iranian infrastructure and military personnel. Authorities say Mosayyebi received payment in cryptocurrency for his espionage activities.
