Abayomi Abraham, a 61-year-old farmer, has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment in Lagos State for attempting to sexually assault his 15-year-old daughter.
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court gave the judgement on Wednesday after the man pleaded guilty.
In an update posted on its X page on Thursday evening, the state’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) disclosed that the court ruled the sentence should commence on August 31, 2022, the date he was remanded in custody.
The post reads in part: “The convict was initially charged with four counts of defilement, sexual assault by penetration, attempt to procure an abortion and indecent treatment of a child.
“He was arraigned on February 21st, 2024, and he pleaded not guilty to the offence.
“The prosecutor counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, had on Monday informed the court that Abraham had opted for a plea bargain agreement, which necessitated the amendment of the charge to attempted sexual assault by penetration.”
The judge ordered Abraham’s name to be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register of the state.
In May, the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court also sentenced Anthony Okeh, a 35-year-old music teacher and counsellor of Lachez O International School, to life imprisonment.
Okeh was sentenced for defiling a nine-year-old pupil. He raped the child at the school located in Agege on September 6, 2022.
