Newly Elected LG Chairman Dies In Katsina

Tragedy has struck Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, as its recently elected Chairman, Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, has died barely two months after assuming office.

Hamidu, who officially took over the leadership of the council in April 2025 following his victory in the February local government elections, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025.

Although the precise cause of death remains undisclosed, unofficial reports suggest that the late chairman had been battling health-related challenges prior to his demise.

Governor Radda Mourns: ‘Katsina Has Lost a True Patriot’

In an official statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Kaula Mohammed, the Governor confirmed the unfortunate news and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons,” Governor Radda stated. “Hon. Hamidu was a quiet achiever who believed in the values of integrity, transparency, and people-first leadership. His death is a painful loss  not only to Bakori but to the entire state.”

Describing the late chairman as a loyal party man, a seasoned civil servant, and a grassroots politician, Radda said Hamidu’s public service career was defined by humility, honesty, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people.

A Legacy of Sincere, People-Centered Leadership

Despite the brevity of his tenure, Governor Radda noted that Hamidu made a lasting impression through his purpose-driven leadership and genuine concern for community development.

“Even in a short period, he showed what leadership could mean when rooted in sincerity,” the governor remarked.

He added that Hamidu’s style of governance was low-profile but high-impact, always focused on delivering tangible improvements in the lives of his constituents without seeking publicity or personal accolades.

Condolences to Family and the APC

Governor Radda extended his heartfelt sympathies to Hamidu’s family, the people of Bakori LGA, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Katsina State.

“We will continue to remember him for his modesty, his dedication, and the love he had for his people,” the governor said.

He concluded with prayers for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi (Paradise).
