Tragedy in Kano as Two Former Local Government Chairmen Die Same Day

In a deeply tragic turn of events, Kano State was thrown into mourning on Monday following the deaths of two former local government chairmen Abubakar Abdullahi Likita of Wudil Local Government Area and Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini of Dala Local Government both of whom passed away on the same day.

Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini reportedly lost his life in a fatal car accident along the Kaduna-Abuja highway. News of his untimely demise sent shockwaves through Kano’s political circles and prompted a large turnout of mourners for his Janazah (funeral) prayer.

In a heartbreaking twist, Abubakar Abdullahi Likita, who was present to pay his final respects to Madakin Gini, tragically collapsed during the funeral rites, just steps away from the coffin of his late friend. Eyewitnesses said he slumped mid-prayer and efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead moments later.

“It was like a scene from a nightmare. We came to mourn one leader, only to witness another fall right in front of us,” said a grieving mourner who witnessed the tragic moment.

Sources disclosed that Likita had arrived at the funeral in the company of Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, former Deputy Governor of Kano State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

The deaths have plunged their respective communities into grief, with tributes pouring in from friends, colleagues, and political associates who described both men as dedicated public servants who served with integrity.

Abubakar Abdullahi Likita's own Janazah prayer is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at his residence in the Bompai area of Kano.
