The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Joseph Eribo, has ordered a full investigation into a viral video showing a group of armed security personnel forcefully breaking into an apartment in Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the Ekiti State Police Command said that the Police are not affiliated with the alleged security team, said to be members of the “Operation Flush” Unit.
It was earlier reported that some rogue policemen have been caught in a video, forcefully gaining access into a private apartment in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
A Nigerian man, Michael, who tweets as #MichaelFrosh32, had shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that the officers were attempting a daylight robbery at a residence in the Adebayo area of the city.
The officers are said to be attached to Operation Flush in Ado-Ekiti Police Command.
He called on police authorities to take action against the officers involved.
Responding via its official handle, the Police Complaint Response Unit (PCRU) requested further information to aid its investigation.
The Ekiti Command spokesperson in the statement said, “The Ekiti Police Command is not unaware of the video circulating on the social media where some armed security personnel were seen breaking into an apartment somewhere still unknown in Ado-Ekiti.”
The Command disassociated itself from the unit and the incident, saying, “The Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Police is not part of the Operation Flush Unit as being alleged by a section of the public. The Police does not operate any unit called Operation Flush.”
Condemning the act captured in the video, CP Eribo directed a comprehensive inquiry to determine the facts of the case and identify those involved, according to Sunday.
“The Command frowns at the incident and the Commissioner of Police, CP JOSEPH ERIBO, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident with the view to unraveling the facts and ensuring justice,” the statement said.
The Command also urged anyone with useful information, especially the affected victims, to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
Reassuring residents of their safety and rights, the police stated, “The Command will continue to support the rule of law, respect the rights of citizens and ensure maximum security for the lives and property of the good people of Ekiti State.”
