Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced that his administration has fulfilled 85 percent of its campaign promises, with just 15 percent left as he begins the second half of his tenure.
He made this known on Thursday during the inauguration of his new Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani; the Director General of the Special Services Directorate, Major General Sani Muhammad (rtd); and 11 newly appointed Special Advisers.
According to the governor, this milestone was revealed after a thorough assessment of his administration’s performance over the past two years.
“I’m happy that last week, when I looked at our polling point, all the promises we made for the people slowed down in two years; we have executed 85%. So I have some alarms for the next one or two, let’s say two years. Is this 15% for us to execute?
“We now presented the issue before the State Executive Council. We have only 15% and we have two years. So we look at looking at the three situations,” he said.
Governor Yusuf added that the government was not resting on its oars but would introduce fresh policies and programmes to deepen its impact on the lives of Kano citizens.
“We are bringing in new programmes and practises that will, by the grace of Allah SWT, continue to impact further to the lives of the good people of the state. And so we cannot do it alone. We have to do it with all of you,” he said.
He also urged members of the administration to embrace accountability and integrity in handling public resources, stressing the need for constructive feedback.
“If there is any problem, don’t just go into the air. Don’t start investigating. Because if you investigate, you are investigating yourself.
“Don’t just go inside and start—come straight and tell us where we are right, where we are wrong. That is why you are here. Ensure transparency and accountability.
“Especially in the judicious utilisation of the little resources that will be entrusted on you, in the people. All the world is under your control. Whether you like it or not, you can’t cross that line.
“This is my little advice to you. God willing, you will do your very best for it. There is no one amongst you that I have not been acquainted to,” he added.
