Pastor Gets 25-Year Jail Term for Sexual Assault on 14-Year-Old Daughter in Lagos

 

Ndukwe Ogbu, a 45-year-old pastor, has bagged a 25-year jail term in Lagos State for sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter.

In an update on its X page on Thursday, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) said Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court convicted and sentenced Ogbu for “sexual assault by penetration” and related charges.

Ogbu was arraigned in February 2021, and his trial began in October of the same year.

The court handed him the sentence on Monday. He got three years imprisonment on the first count and 25 years each on the second and third counts. The terms are to run concurrently.

The update reads, “During the trial, the prosecution presented 3 witnesses, a social worker, the victim, and the doctor who examined the child.

“The social worker, Femi Oyeleke, reported the case to the police, while the victim testified and identified Ogbu as her father.

“The victim in her testimony narrated to Justice Abike-Fadipe that she was 14 years old when the incident started. While describing the abuse in her testimony, she told the court that her father would come into her room naked, remove her clothes, and force himself on her.

“She told the court that her father had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions, and threatened her not to tell anybody.

“The victim also explained how she confided in her school teacher, who then alerted the social worker and the social worker, in turn, reported to the police.”

Although the defence denied the allegations, with Ogbu claiming the survivor had memory issues, the court found the claims unconvincing and sentenced him.
