Nigerians on social media have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to declare that electing Peter Obi as president has become a national emergency, citing the worsening economic conditions and governance failures under Tinubu’s administration.

The call was triggered by a post from popular X user Maxvayshia™, who wrote, “Peter Obi becoming president is now a matter of utmost urgency. A huge emergency.”

The post quickly gained traction, with thousands echoing the sentiment, describing Obi as the only credible alternative in a nation many say is on the brink of collapse.

Reacting to the post, Dokun Ojomo wrote, “He is eminently qualified to become president. However, he needs a very strong party & VP candidate like Kwankwaso. Alternatively, his best bet is an alliance with Atiku & the coalition party. If I am given the opportunity to advise him, I will recommend an alliance with Atiku.” Another user, A little kindness, argued that the call for Obi’s presidency is more than political—it is existential. “It’s actually a matter of national emergency because the rate at which Nigeria is going, we might end up having so many agboros in control of power, and when that happens, we won’t have a sane country again.”

Farouk M. condemned the APC-led government for pushing Nigerians deeper into poverty. “People are suffering, and the APC has pushed millions of families into poverty with the hope of using cups of rice to buy their votes in 2027. Removing APC is now a patriotic duty for all Nigerians,” he said.

Some, however, expressed concern about the electorate’s readiness to embrace change.
