Senator Francis Fadahunsi Resigns from PDP Over Irreconcilable Differences

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has formally withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-rooted internal crises and unresolved legal disputes within the party.

The senator conveyed his decision in a resignation letter personally signed and dated June 12, 2025, which was submitted to the Chairman of Ward 4 in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

Reasons Behind the Resignation

In the letter, Senator Fadahunsi attributed his exit from the main opposition party to what he described as “irreparable and irreconcilable differences” and prolonged legal battles that have plagued the PDP at the national level following the 2023 general elections.

“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedeviled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections,” the letter reads.

He further explained that the decision was not taken lightly but came after extensive consultation with political associates, family members, and long-time supporters.

“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends,” he added.

Senator Fadahunsi concluded the letter by asking the party leadership to accept his resignation in good faith and thanked them for their understanding.

A Political Heavyweight in Osun Politics

Fadahunsi, who hails from Ijesa land in Osun East, is serving his second term in the Senate and has long been considered a key figure in the state’s political landscape. He has also been recognized as one of the notable supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke, playing a visible role in PDP activities both within Osun State and at the national level.

His departure from the party is expected to send ripples through the political structure in the state, especially as political realignments begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Next Political Move Unclear

While Senator Fadahunsi has not publicly disclosed his next political destination, observers believe he may soon align with another major political platform. His exit from the PDP is being interpreted by many as a signal of broader dissatisfaction among party leaders and stakeholders, particularly those from the South-West, with the current state of affairs within the opposition.

Political analysts are now watching closely to see whether other PDP figures, especially those from Osun State, will follow in his footsteps or attempt to rebuild from within the party.
