Two Brothers Detained in Zaria Over Facebook Post Linking Speaker Tajudeen Abbas’ Wife to Alleged Corruption

Two brothers from Zaria, Suleiman Barde and his elder sibling, are currently being detained in a Zaria prison following a Facebook post that allegedly exposed corrupt activities involving the wife of House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area.

The ongoing detention came to light through a statement by a Nigerian Omoyele Sowore, who described the situation as a clear case of power abuse and rights violation.

Despite earlier reports suggesting the brothers had regained their freedom, Sowore insisted they remain behind bars.

According to him, the arrest stemmed directly from retaliation by Speaker Abbas and the Zaria LGA Chairman in response to the viral social media post.

Sowore condemned the act, characterizing it as a disturbing example of political oppression and misuse of public authority.

He demanded the immediate release of the detained brothers and emphasized that such violations must not be tolerated in a democratic setting.

“It has come to my attention that Suleiman Barde and his elder brother, two young men from Zaria, are still being unjustly detained at the Zaria prison over a Facebook post revealing shady dealings involving the Speaker’s wife and the Zaria LGA executive Chairman. This is contrary to earlier reports suggesting they had been released.

Their arrest and continued incarceration are tied to the actions of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, a clear abuse of power and an assault on the rights of innocent citizens.

We strongly demand the immediate release of Suleiman Barde and his brother.”

“This injustice must not be allowed to stand,” he added.
