Wike Spent 50 Million Naira Weekly on Alcohol as Governor of Rivers - Amaechi

 

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in 2023 said the amount of state funds that Nyesom Wike the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and then Rivers State Governor spent on alcohol in two weeks, was equivalent to the amount he (Amaechi) spent to build one primary school, when he served as governor.

Speaking during his 2023 campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, Amaechi said, “The person Wike buys alcohol from said Wike spends 50 million naira every week on alcohol.

“The primary schools we built is 112 million naira, it means that in two weeks, Wike has drunk one primary school. When Wike talks, it is alcohol that is talking. And he’s so shameless about it. Wike told the whole world on live TV that he was drinking a very expensive 40-year-old whiskey, in the morning”.

He also described Wike as a drunk who should not be allowed a third term through his stooge, Sim Fubara.

Recall that in March 2023, Wike said he was “drinking a 40-year-old whiskey” when members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were protesting at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the result of the presidential election.

The demonstration was led by Atiku Abubakar and other PDP chieftains.

“As they were protesting, I just sat down and I took one 40-year-old whiskey. I called some of my friends — o boy, sit down. Make una sit down open 40 years,” Wike had said.

Reacting in a statement, Phrank Shaibu, an aide to Atiku, said: “For the sake of clarity, the protest occurred around 11.30 am. Governor Wike says he was drinking whisky during the protest at 11.30 am on a Monday.”

Nyesom Wike a man who seems to fall out with someone new every week and always has something unsavoury to say about people who were once his closest allies.

In all the travails that have followed Wike  from his early days as governor to his current tenure as minister the 57-year-old, who many would argue appears older than his age, has never considered himself the problem in any of the conflicts he finds himself embroiled in.

Every former friend, ally, or associate has, somehow, wronged him. Everyone, except, of course, his expensive whisky the one thing that has never offended him.
