Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has reportedly taken a fourth wife, adding a new member to his household in a quiet ceremony that took place over the weekend.
According to information obtained by Naijapunchnews, the low-key wedding was held in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The event was attended by only a select circle comprising close family members, trusted allies, and personal friends. The new bride, a 23-year-old woman named Hiqma, was formally welcomed into the Bello family without any public announcement or elaborate festivities, in contrast to the grand ceremonies often associated with political figures of his stature.
Confirmation of the marriage came via social media on Sunday, when Bello’s third wife, Hafiza, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. In her post, she introduced Hiqma as the latest addition to the family and prayed for a peaceful and harmonious household.
Her message read:
“Alhamdulillah, our family just got a little bigger and more loving! A warm welcome to our new family member, Mrs. Hiqma Yahaya Bello! May Allah bless our union and fill our home with love, peace, and Barakah. Amin!”
Yahaya Bello, who served as the governor of Kogi State from 2016 until the conclusion of his tenure in 2024, is now officially married to four women: Amina Oyiza, Rashidat, Hafiza, and the newly joined Hiqma.
His first wife, Amina Oyiza Bello, is a prominent lawyer and humanitarian. She is the founder of the Hayat Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, across Kogi State.
Meanwhile, Bello remains under legal scrutiny. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed multiple charges against him, alleging his involvement in a massive money laundering scheme estimated at over ₦80 billion. The case has generated widespread public interest, with many Nigerians closely following developments as court proceedings continue.
While the former governor has not made any public comments regarding his recent marriage or the status of his legal case, the private nature of the wedding has sparked mixed reactions online ranging from congratulatory messages to criticism over the timing of the ceremony, given his ongoing trial.
