Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has advised public servants to focus on leaving behind enduring legacies through good deeds rather than clinging to titles or political positions.
Akpabio made this call on Saturday at the funeral service of Late Abom Emmanuel Eno Peter Umana, held at the Catholic Church Assumption Parish, Ukana, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President described the deceased as a dedicated teacher, politician, and public servant whose contributions to his people remain visible decades after he left office.
“We are all gathered here today to celebrate the life of a man who gave his all to his people when he occupied the public office of a Commissioner of Trade and Industries in the old Cross River State.
Pa Umana left behind indelible legacies which are now points of reference for the people of Essien Udim and Akwa Ibom State in general,” Akpabio said.
He urged leaders to emulate such examples, adding: “I call on public officers to always do their best by putting smiles on the faces of the people so that when they are long gone, they would be remembered for their good deeds, not for the titles or political positions they once held.”
Akpabio also recalled Pa Umana’s service as a teacher at the College of Education, Uyo, where he displayed passion for knowledge impartation, and his achievements as Commissioner of Trade and Industries, where he facilitated the establishment of industries such as Sunshine Batteries, Qua Steel Mills, and International Biscuits Limited.
The Senate President prayed for the peaceful repose of the late statesman and urged the family to find comfort in the impactful life he lived.
