The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Madonna University, Anambra State, Prof. Martin Anagboso, has reportedly been implicated in the alleged alteration of Caritas University records filed with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
It was gathered that on Friday, Anagboso, who also serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of Caritas University, has allegedly transferred control of institutions founded by Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Edeh to a foundation he chairs.
The move reportedly followed Madonna University's inability to repay a N1.2 billion loan obtained from MayFresh Mortgage Bank Limited.
Documents obtained from CAC show that Prof. Anagboso, who has allegedly been exploiting the current age-related illness of the founder of the institution, Rev. Fr. Edeh, has changed the status of Caritas University and transferred 80% shares of the institution to Edeh Onovo Foundation, where he doubles as chairman of the Board of Directors.
On August 26, SaharaReporters reported that Prof. Martin Anagboso had been implicated in the alteration of records for Madonna University, Anambra State, with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Citing CAC documents obtained, the report noted that Anagboso, allegedly exploiting the age-related illness of the university’s founder, Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Edeh, is seeking control of all institutions established by the cleric.
SaharaReporters had previously reported that Anagboso was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged theft of shares from MayFresh Mortgage Bank Limited and the manipulation of bank documents filed with the CAC.
Further checks on institutions founded by Fr. Edeh, including Caritas University, revealed that Anagboso has transferred ownership of some entities, including Madonna University, to the Edeh Onovo Foundation, where he serves as chairman.
Documents obtained on Thursday show that Anagboso is now listed as a director representing the Edeh Onovo Foundation at Caritas University, following the removal of Rev. Fr. Emeka J. Ezenwajiaku as director and shareholder.
The records indicate that the removal of Fr. Ezenwajiaku and the transfer of shares to the foundation were executed on October 30, 2024.
Of the university’s 10 million ordinary shares, 8 million were allocated to the Edeh Onovo Foundation, while only 2 million were allocated to Fr. Edeh.
The shares of other stakeholders, including Madonna University, were systematically wiped out.
With this allocation, Anagboso effectively controls both Madonna and Caritas Universities, consolidating power over the institutions founded by Fr. Edeh.
Sources also revealed that Anagboso hired a lawyer to remove the name of the company secretary, Dangana Saleh, from the CAC records and subsequently appointed Festus Ukpe Esq. as the company secretary.
The source called on the National Security Adviser to authorise the EFCC to extend its investigation to the authorities in CAC, insisting that the actions of the commission's staff constitute an act of economic sabotage against the nation.
"It is surprising that Anagboso who was brandishing a letter that he was fighting for the interest of the church and that Mayfresh Mortgage Bank belongs to the church could go and change the ownership of Caritas University and Madonna University respectively and transferred the ownership to Edeh Onovo Foundation of Edeh Onovo family because he is in charge of the Foundation and would be able to use the Foundation to take absolute control of both institutions,” the source said.
“He currently holds the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), in addition to being the Chairman of the Governing Council, Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, Enugu State.
"Professor Martin is a Trustee Member of the Madonna International Charity Peace," a source told SaharaReporters.
The source stated that, despite a complaint to the Registrar General of the CAC by the Fathers of Jesus the Saviour congregation, who asserted that they retain proprietorship, the commission reportedly ignored their claims.
"The Corporate Affairs Commission up till now did not take any action to punish him despite receiving the letter of complaint from the Reverend Fathers that they never authorised the transfer of ownership of Madonna University to any other body," the source said.
"This goes to show that there is a powerful syndicate at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) helping him," the source added.
Meanwhile, he has also changed and altered the status of Edeh Onovo Foundation records with the CAC.
As of August 28, 2025, the status of the Edeh Onovo Foundation indicates that Prof. Anagboso removed members of Fr. Edeh’s family, who had previously served as trustees, along with other Rev. Fathers and Professor Emmanuel Ezedum.
On August 21, 2024, he appointed Reverend Sister Ezekwem Annette Mairette as a trustee and Festus Ukpe as the foundation’s secretary.
Sister Ezekwem Annette Mairette, who serves as the Personal Assistant to the Chancellor of Madonna University on student welfare, was among those earlier arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with the N1.2 billion loan and alleged document alterations at MayFresh Mortgage Bank Limited.
