US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet this Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, according to a White House official.
The summit marks their first one-on-one meeting since their 2018 encounter in Helsinki.’
The leaders will focus on ending the war in Ukraine, which has raged for over three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Despite months of diplomatic efforts during Trump’s second term, a peace agreement remains elusive.
Located near Anchorage, Alaska’s capital, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson was formed in 2010 through the merger of Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson.
It serves as the headquarters for Alaska Command and the Alaskan NORAD Region, both critical to U.S. defense operations in the region.
The base plays a key role in monitoring Russian military activity, with U.S. forces frequently intercepting Russian aircraft approaching American airspace.
