The price of cement in Nigeria remains a major talking point for builders, contractors, and homeowners as construction costs continue to rise.

A market review shows that prices vary widely depending on the type of cement, its use, and the manufacturer.

Dangote Cement – ₦10,200 per 50kg bag

BUA Cement – ₦10,000 per 50kg bag

Plaster of Paris (POP) Cement – ₦10,000 per bag

White Cement – ₦16,000 per bag

Refractory Solution Castable Cement (Fire Cement) – ₦33,000 per bag

Dangote and BUA, the two dominant players in Nigeria’s cement industry, currently retail their standard 50kg bags between ₦10,000 and ₦10,200, reflecting ongoing pressures from high energy costs, logistics challenges, and forex fluctuations.

Specialty cement products command significantly higher prices. Plaster of Paris (POP) cement, used mainly for ceilings and decorative works, sells for ₦10,000 per bag. White cement, preferred for finishing, tile works, and decorative surfaces, goes for ₦16,000 per bag.

At the premium end, Refractory Solution Castable Cement (Fire Cement), used in high-temperature industrial applications, sells for as much as ₦33,000 per bag.

Factors Driving Cement Prices

Energy Costs – Cement production requires high amounts of power and gas, with recent hikes in energy prices impacting manufacturing expenses.

Transportation & Logistics – Poor road networks, diesel costs, and haulage charges add significantly to the retail price.

Foreign Exchange Volatility – Many inputs and equipment are tied to the dollar, making prices sensitive to naira depreciation.

Market Demand – High construction demand, especially during peak building seasons, influences retail pricing.

Specialization – Specialty cements like POP, white, and fire cement have niche uses, limited producers, and higher production costs.
