Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has approved the immediate dismissal of the state's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister C. O. C. Akaolisa.
The announcement was made through an official press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, on Monday. According to the statement, the former commissioner has been directed to promptly transfer all government property and responsibilities in his possession to the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
Barrister Akaolisa, a long-standing ally of Governor Uzodinma, had been a key figure in the state’s legal and political landscape. He served as Attorney General since the governor’s first term, holding a strategic role within the administration’s inner circle, often referred to as the “kitchen cabinet.”
While the official statement did not specify the reason for the removal, the development has sparked speculation, especially as it comes just weeks after the removal of the recently appointed Chief Judge of the state, Justice Theophilus Nzeukwu. The Chief Judge's ouster followed a recommendation from the National Judicial Council (NJC), which questioned the legality and transparency of his appointment.
The back-to-back shakeups within Imo State’s judicial hierarchy suggest growing scrutiny of legal appointments and processes under Governor Uzodinma’s watch.
