The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared his full support for the party’s newly-appointed chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, describing his emergence as a well-calculated and timely move critical to the APC’s continued strength and evolution.
In a statement released on Thursday night, Ganduje commended the decision of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC), which ratified Yilwatda’s appointment, describing the move as a milestone that comes at a crucial juncture, with Nigeria’s political landscape bracing for new realignments and policy shifts.
“This is a strategic decision that comes at just the right time,” Ganduje stated. “It signals a renewed direction for the APC as we work towards consolidating power and deepening our party’s relevance in Nigerian politics.”
Having voluntarily stepped down from the position due to health-related reasons, Ganduje expressed strong faith in Professor Yilwatda’s ability to provide effective leadership and build on the legacies of those who came before him, including Abdullahi Adamu and Ganduje himself.
Ganduje Applauds Transparent Selection Process and Presidential Wisdom
The former Kano State governor praised the APC leadership structure — including the NEC, National Working Committee (NWC), and other party organs — for conducting what he described as a “consensus-driven, transparent, and inclusive” transition process.
He extended particular appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, lauding their calm, calculated approach to party leadership and transition management.
“Once again, the President and his Vice have demonstrated statesmanship, maturity, and deep foresight. Their unwavering dedication to party unity and internal democracy deserves recognition,” Ganduje added.
Call for Unity, Loyalty, and Support for Yilwatda’s Leadership
Ganduje used the opportunity to rally support for Yilwatda, urging all segments of the party from state chapters to the youth and women wings to align behind the new chairman and provide him with all the necessary backing to ensure success.
“Unity, discipline, and loyalty must remain our guiding principles as we chart the course forward. I call on all stakeholders — governors, lawmakers, party leaders, and grassroots members — to support our new chairman as he works to strengthen the APC’s role as a platform for national transformation.”

As he formally exits the stage, Ganduje pledged his personal support and guidance to his successor, offering “brotherly solidarity” and wishing him divine guidance as he takes on the weighty responsibility of party leadership.
