A 25-year-old man identified as Abdulraman Rabiu has been accused of fatally stabbing his cousin, Adamu Abubakar, during a violent altercation in the North Bank area of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

According to information obtained by Naijapunchnews, the tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday at Lafia Garage, a popular commercial area within the North Bank district.

A reliable police source familiar with the case disclosed that the two cousins were involved in a heated argument that escalated into a physical fight. During the confrontation, Abdulraman reportedly used a sharp object to stab his 35-year-old cousin, inflicting severe injuries.

“It was reported that during a physical altercation, the younger cousin stabbed the elder one, leading to a fatal injury,” the source revealed.

Following the stabbing, eyewitnesses said that a mob of angry residents descended on Abdulraman, beating him mercilessly before the intervention of security operatives, who rescued him from the irate crowd.

Both the suspect and the injured victim were rushed to Divine Love Hospital in the Low Level area of Makurdi for emergency treatment. However, Adamu Abubakar was later pronounced dead by medical personnel while receiving care.

Police Launch Investigation

The Benue State Police Command has since confirmed the incident and announced that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to determine the cause of the altercation and whether the incident was premeditated or occurred in the heat of the moment.

Community Reaction

The incident has sent shockwaves through the North Bank community, with residents expressing sorrow and disbelief that a family disagreement could escalate into such a violent and deadly encounter.

Local leaders have called for calm and urged families to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence.

Next Steps

As of the time of this report, Abdulraman Rabiu remains under police custody at the hospital under close watch, and will be formally interrogated once he is medically stable. The police have assured the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law.
