Those Defending Increment of International Passport Prices Will End up Begging for Reduction When They Need it — Aisha Yesufu

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised Nigerians defending the increase in international passport prices.

In a post on her official X handle, Yesufu lamented that some Nigerians are applauding such a move.

She, however, stated that the irony of the matter is that those defending such an increment will, in the long run, beg for a reduction of the passport price when the need to get an international passport arises for them.

Her post reads,” People are actually defending the increased cost of an international passport. A must document you need if you have to travel out of Nigeria!

“The irony of it? Most of those defending are those who will end up begging for the amount when the need for it arises for them!

Recall that the Tinubu-led government, on August 28, approved a steep hike in the cost of obtaining Nigerian international passports.

In a statement issued, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed that the price of a 32-page passport with a five-year validity has jumped from ₦50,000 to ₦100,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity, which previously cost ₦100,000, will now be issued at ₦200,000.
